The Major Responsibilities of an HR

Human resource is a term used to describe the individuals who make up the workforce of an organization, although it is also applied in labor economics to, for example, business sectors or even whole nations. Human resources is also the name of the function within an organization charged with the overall responsibility for implementing strategies and policies relating to the management of individuals (i.e. the human resources). This function title is often abbreviated to the initials 'HR'.

 

Key Responsibilities of an HR

1. Maintaining awareness of and compliance with local, state and federal labor laws

To maintain and develop HR policies, ensuring compliance and to contribute the development of corporate HR policies.

Prepare information and input for the salary budgets. Ensure compliance to the approved salary budget; give focus on pay for performance and salary benchmarks where available. Ensure adherence to corporate guideline on salary adjustments and promotions. Coordinate increments and promotions of all staff.

2. Recruitment, selection, and on boarding (resourcing)

To ensure timely recruitment of required level / quality of Management staff, other business lines staff, including non-billable staff with appropriate global approvals, in order to meet business needs, focusing on Employee Retention and key Employee Identification initiatives.

Provide active support in the selection of Recruitment agencies which meet the corporate standard. Ensure Corporate Branding in recruitment webs and advertisements.

Develop, refine and fine-tune effective methods or tools for selection / or provide external consultants to ensure the right people with the desired level of competence are brought into the organization or are promoted.

3. Employee record keeping and confidentiality

Employee offer letters; salary letters and employment contracts. Approve updated organizational charts on a monthly basis and maintain complete/accurate personnel records.

4. Organizational design and development

To develop the HR team, to ensure the provision of a professional HR service to the organization. Manage a team of staff. Responsible for mentoring, guiding and developing them as a second line to the current position.

To develop the HR business plan.

To facilitate development of staff with special focus on Line Management.

Co-ordinate the design, implementation and administration of human resource policies and activities to ensure the availability and effective utilization of human resources for meeting the company's objectives.

5. Business transformation and change management

To recommend and ensure implementation of Strategic directions for people development within the organization.

6. Performance, conduct and behavior management

To maintain and develop leading edge HR systems and processes to address the effective management of people in relation to the following in order to maintain competitive advantage for:

Performance Management, Management Development / Career Development, Succession Planning, Competency Building / Mapping, Compensation.

Counseling and Guidance cell - provide support to Managers in case of disciplinary issues.

7. Industrial and employee relations

Ensure appropriate communication at all staff levels.

8. Human resources (workforce) analysis and workforce personnel data management

Oversee the central HR Administration

Responsible for Corporate HR function.

Responsible for overall centralized HR admin function

9. Compensation and employee benefit management

Administer all employee benefit programs with conjunction with the Finance and Administration department.

Reward and Recognition

Benefit programs.

10. Training and development (learning management)

Provide counsel and assistance to employees at all levels in accordance with the company's policies and procedures as well as relevant legislation.

Death

Death is the termination of the biological functions that sustain a living organism. The word refers both to the particular processes of life's cessation as well as to the condition or state of a formerly living body. Phenomena which commonly bring about death include predation, malnutrition, accidents resulting in terminal injury, and disease.

Signs of death or strong indications that a person is no longer alive are:

• Cessation of breathing
• No pulse (cardiac arrest)
• Pallor mortis, paleness which happens in the 15–120 minutes after death
• Livor mortis, a settling of the blood in the lower (dependent) portion of the body
• Algor mortis, the reduction in body temperature following death. This is generally a steady decline until matching ambient temperature
• Rigor mortis, the limbs of the corpse become stiff (Latin rigor) and difficult to move or manipulate
• Decomposition, the reduction into simpler forms of matter, accompanied by a strong, unpleasant odor.

When we read the above paragraphs we come to know  about death in general. Today, I would like to share death in a different way. When I was five years old, I started understanding death. I missed the people who died. I never saw them; I used to think about them. I started losing my near and dear ones as days passed. Every evening my father used to take me for a stroll. We passed the River Hooghly, the tributary of the Ganges River but would always stop at the crematorium. I would hold my father’s hand tightly. I did not want him to stop everyday. He would make me go inside and tell me the secret of death. He would say that man is mortal. Death is everywhere, but why? Sometimes there is foul play, sometimes the fatality is self-induced, and often natural causes just take their toll. Humans are as frail as any other creature. My father would say that the crematorium was the most sacred place and that I should never be afraid of this place. After returning home, I would ask my elder brothers, is it painful when the bodies are burnt? I would also request them not to hit the body (me after my death) while it would burn (at that time modern cremation furnace was not common). They would laugh.

Married and mother of a child with work and work, had less time to think about death. By then lost many relatives and neighbours. Alas! everything changed once again with the death of my father. It was like the world coming to an end. I could not believe my ears that my father is no more with us. "God! I want my father back", I shouted, I cried aloud, I was not the same person what my neighbours have known. I was not normal. I did not know how to reach home. I did not believe anybody. I was helpless. How would I reach home? The last flight had already left. I still cannot express how I spent that night waiting desperately to hear the crow cawing. It was afternoon when I reached home. I saw my father lying with a smile on his face. Even after so many hours the body was not discoloured, not cold. I kept on asking this question: “Is my father alive?” I called him “Baba, I have come with your grandchild. Please wake up. Baba, I am tired”.  I kissed him on the cheek, but he did not open his eyes, he did not kiss me on my forehead, which he would always do, he did not talk to me. He died chanting God’s name, he did not suffer, he died like a King. 

Many years have passed, many people have died. I started going to the crematorium at the time of cremation. I watch the bodies lying, waiting for their chance to come. The bodies go inside the chamber where the body is placed which is called the retort and is lined with heat-resistant refractory bricks.  During the cremation process, a large part of the body (especially the organs) and other soft tissue are vaporized and oxidized by the intense heat; gases released are discharged through the exhaust system. After 45 to 55 minutes the sound stops. Contrary to popular belief, the cremated remains are not ashes in the usual sense. After the incineration is completed, the dry bone fragments are swept out of the retort and pulverized by a machine called a cremulator to process them into "ashes" or "cremated remains". In this way I have seen bodies being turned into ashes.

ENGLISH AND ITS IMPORTANCE

ENGLISH IS A REQUIREMENT: 

Modern English is the dominant language or in some instances even the required international language of communications, science, information technology, business, aviation, entertainment, radio and diplomacy. The growing economic and cultural influence of the US and its status as a global superpower since World War II have significantly accelerated the language’s spread across the planet. A working knowledge of English has become a requirement in a number of fields, occupations and professions such as medicine and computing; as a consequence over a billion people speak English to at least a basic level.

English in the Other Countries:

English is the primary language in Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, the British Indian Ocean Territory, the British Virgin Islands, Canada, the Cayman Islands, Dominica, the Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guam, Guernsey, Guyana, Ireland, The Isle of Man, Jamaica, Jersey, Montserrat, Nauru, New Zealand, Pitcairn Islands, Saint Helena, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Singapore, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, the Turks and Caicos Islands, the United Kingdom and the United States.

In some countries where English is not the most spoken language, it is an official language; these countries include Botswana, Cameroon, the Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, India, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malta, the Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines (Philippine English), Rwanda, Saint Lucia, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, the Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, the Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

It is also one of the 11 official languages that are given equal status in South Africa (South African English). English is also the official language in current dependent territories of Australia (Norfolk Island, Christmas Island and Cocos Island) and of the United States (American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands), and the former British colony of Hong Kong.

English is not an official language in either the United States or the United Kingdom. Although the United States federal government has no official languages, English has been given official status by 30 of the 50 state governments. Although falling short of official status, English is also an important language in several former colonies and protectorates of the United Kingdom, such as Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cyprus, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates. English is not an official language of Israel, but is taken as a required second language at all schools and therefore widely spoken.

English Brings the World Closer:

English is one of the most important languages in the world. It can even be said to be the single most important language. Yes, other languages are important too, but not for the same reasons as English is important. English is important because it is, maybe, the only language that truly links the whole world together. If not for English, the whole world may not be as united as it is today. The other languages may be important for their local values and culture.

English can be used as a language in any part of the world. This is because at least a few people in each locality would know the language. Though these people might not have the same accent as others, the language at least will be understandable. There are various reasons for the importance of English language. They are listed below.

1.   Travel: When a person travels to another part of the world either for the sake of business or even as a tourist, the languages may differ. In these conditions, English is the language that helps people to deal with the situation. It is like a universal language.

2.   Same country: In countries like India, where the land is so vast with people of various cultures live, the languages of each part of the country also differ. Under the circumstances, English can be the only link as people in each place will not be able to learn all the other languages to communicate with the people. English bridges this gap and connects the people.

3.   Education / Studies: The presence of English as a universal language assumes importance in the fact that more and more people leave their countries not only for the sake of business and pleasure, but also for studying. Education has increased the role of English. People who go to another country to study can only have English as their medium of study. This is because the individual will not be able to learn a subject in the local language of the country. This again reinforces the fact that English language is very important.

4. Correspondence: All correspondences between offices in different countries and also between political leaders of various countries are in English. This linking factor also tells of the importance of English language.

5.   Internet: In spite of the growth of Internet in various languages, English is the mainstay of the Internet users. This is the language in which most of the information and websites are available. It is very difficult to translate each and every relevant webpage into the language of various countries. With Internet becoming very important in E commerce and also in education, English language is bound to grow. Thus the importance of English as a language is emphasized. 

The future of English as a language is very secure. In this era of consolidation and trying to unify various aspects of life, it will not be long before English can be made as a single language of the world like the single currency and the union of various nations.

Importance of English in India:

India is a vast country with different languages in different parts of the country. These regional languages differ from each other so much that it is not possible to communicate with people of other regions without a common language. Further, India is growing on all fronts whether it is social or economic angle. India is on the road to become a strong and prosperous nation in the world. India is trying to maintain a good foreign policy. For all this, there is need of a common language i.e., English. It is this language which is understood almost all over the region in addition to national language of Hindi, all schools and colleges teach English and mostly have it as a medium of instruction.

In today’s world, we have to get knowledge of advanced technologies and all kinds of branches of Science. There is an urgent need of such a common language which can be understood by youth all over India and the language in which all data and information is available. It is English only which can be rightly selected as the language to be studied by all of us from the very primary level. This language is a store house of social and political knowledge. Hence, study of English language is of great importance for a developing country like India. Without knowledge of this language, our technicians, mechanics and engineers cannot progress.

India is a peace-loving country and wants to spread the same message to all countries of the world. The other countries also take interest to understand and know this policy of India. We have to explain and convince friendly nations our point of view. All this is possible only through a common medium of exchange of ideas and views. English is such a language having an international status and can provide the best medium to interact with outside world. In all international seminars or summits, all speeches or course material is in English. If India is to utilize these opportunities, and expand its universal view point, then English is the only language which should be learnt by all of us.

Further, a nation can remain intact only when its leaders can understand the people living in different regions and can communicate with them in effective and cordial manner. All leaders cannot understand more than ten to fifteen languages of various regions, however, they can easily understand the common language English. This language is important to inspire unity not only at the national level but at the international level. To curb the separatist tendencies of our varied communities, we must continue to teach English. Without learning and communicating in this language, we will perish one day. To survive in modern society, English knowledge is as essential as water.

Today, USA and other countries have made tremendous progress in the field of science and technology. In space technology, we are no match to them. The world is making progress in these fields at a terrific speed. To increase and encourage more research work in Science and Technology, we have to study all these subjects in detail. And for this the importance of English cannot be denied. Our own regional languages do not have the depth and capacity to understand and correlate all these technological developments and as such, cannot serve the purpose to keep pace with the fast growing world outside. Most of the best books on all such subjects are available in English language only. We cannot translate it all in our own regional languages, therefore, knowledge of English can only prove to be a blessing.

Every nation must develop and encourage its own language. However, in India we have diversity in languages and it is not possible for many years ahead to have a common language like Hindi. Under such circumstances, we cannot wait for long; otherwise we will be left far behind. As such, till such time one language is developed, we must learn and teach English from the beginning itself. Some subject like Science, Mathematics and technology books must be taught in English only. This fact is being realized now by those who had opposed teaching in English few years ago. They now know that we have not been able to prosper like other countries of the world due to keeping ourselves away from English. It is this language which can uplift us not only within our own country but throughout the world. We will be no less than anybody in the world with knowledge of English.

I Am A Woman

After completing my graduation and working for two years I was married to the man I chose. Things became pretty different. When I used to wake up, I could see my parents, my siblings and my own people before my marriage. I saw a person beside me who had no blood relation but was caring at the same time could feel the pride in possessing me. I had to be busy with paper works changing my last name. Why did I change my last name? Is it because I am a woman?

Now that I was at a new place, completely uprooted from the birth place, I started with new food habits, new likings and new ways of talking and also had to think twice before I said something. Lots of sacrifice, lots of responsibilities and lots more which I never thought of. I started observing, nothing changed for my husband. He was at his place, with his own people. I had to let them know before going to my place. Why was this? Is it because I am a woman?

The day came when I became a mother. I had to go through the terrible pain which almost every mother had at the time of becoming a mother. My husband came with a smiling face and at the same time with his caring hands tried to hold my hands before the birth of my child. The pain made me annoyed; I stared at him and then with an angry tone asked him: “I think you are happy because you are about to become a father, why not sharing my pain?” When my son was born I forgot the pain. Like the rest of other women in the world, I was happy. It was the ‘first rice taking ceremony’ of my son. We thought of inviting our friends and relatives to be a part of the ceremony. A card was printed, people were invited. My son grew up. I showed him his pictures. I showed him the card. The card read my in-laws’ names along with my husband’s name and yes, it also had my son’s name. I read once, twice, thrice….but where is my name? It did not have my name. I was so busy with my family, loving all members of the family that I did not look at this. Why did nobody think of mentioning my name? Is it because I am a woman?

After coming back from work place, I could not sleep much. Nobody asked me to wake up however, it was my inner feeling of motherhood, responsible woman that forced me to wake up with only four to five hours of sleep. On the other hand, I would see my husband sleeping for seven to eight hours with no worries, not much of responsibility. Why am I so worried to make a perfect home? Is it because I am a woman?

After all these years I have come to know the greatest truth about woman. I am happy to be a woman as, woman, god’s most beautiful creation on earth is a symbol of

Tips in Life that Lead to Happiness.

Are we truly happy? Do we even know what it means to be happy and what it takes to achieve happiness? These are some important questions for all. To maintain my own happiness I try my best not to cause unhappiness to anyone else. If we want to be happy we need to understand that we can be happy and that we should be happy. Some people believe that they don’t deserve happiness and accept their unhappy state as their destiny. The truth is that happiness, like anything else in life, needs to be nurtured.

The following are a few tips that can be followed to create happiness in a life:

• Stay healthy: When one is not well, it is difficult to be happy. Problems with our health can be the cause of many worries in life. So we should take care of our body, eat healthy food and enjoy a good health.
  
• Make healthy relationships: Healthy marriage, great family and good friendships are good ways to attain happiness in life. Everything may not be perfect but we can always do something about it. Let us remember, happiness is a choice. We should surround ourselves with happy people. It is easy to begin to think negatively when we are surrounded by people who think that way. Conversely, if we are around people who are happy their emotional state will be infectious.
• Do what you enjoy: We should spend time in doing what we enjoy. If our passion is writing, we should spend some time writing. If we love swimming or we enjoy teaching the children, we should find ways to enjoy our passion.
• Get out of debt: Finances should be managed. We should not spend more than what we can afford. At times it is observed; people have no choice when it comes to medical emergency. It is advisable to always take precautionary measures: mediclaims and small savings.
• Know how to deal with stress: These days stress has been a major part of our lives. Stress with family problems and stress from a demanding work - they are all around. As we all know happiness is a choice, do not let stress overrule our lives. Some creative ways are to be worked out to relieve stress. We should practice meditation and practice deep relaxation.
• Help others: One should volunteer to help others with their needs. When we do this, we realize that there are more people who need our attention than being too focused on our selfish goals in lives.
• Share: We know that sharing can make a big difference. We can give somebody a little joy by sharing our abilities and what we have - we will feel that happiness in us. One of the good ways to be happy is the joy of giving.
  
• Enjoy simple things: Happiness sometimes comes from simple things in life: a good time with our pet dog, a flower blooming in our garden or the joys of cooking our favorite recipe.
• Be Thankful: We should count our blessings. Focusing on what we have achieved is important. Instead of thinking what we want to have in life, let us make a list or even a mental list of what we already have and be thankful for it. Being appreciative of the blessing we have will tend to attract more of it.
• Sense of humour: Finding the humour in situations can also lead to happiness. At times it is required to be serious; however, when it is appropriate, we should find a way to make light of a situation that would otherwise make us unhappy.
  
• Look for a solution: When something goes wrong let us try to figure out a solution instead of wallowing in self pity. Truly happy people don’t allow set backs to affect their mood because they know that with a little thought they can turn the circumstances back to their favour.

Love

Love is the emotion of strong affection and personal attachment. Some say it is mysterious, magical, complex, difficult, imaginary, thought-provoking, inspirational, intuitional, joyous, immeasurable, ecstasy, and undefinable.

In a classic book titled Colors of Love (1973), J. A. Lee defined six varieties of relationship that might be labeled love:

Eros is romantic, passionate, love— In this type of relationship, love is life's most important thing. Lee said a search for physical beauty or an ideal type also typifies this type of love.

Ludus is a game-playing or uncommitted love. Lying is part of the game. A person who pursues ludic love may have many conquests but remains uncommitted.

Storge (STORE-gay) is a slow developing, friendship-based loved. People with this type of relationship like to participate in activities together. Often storge results in a long-term relationship in which sex might not be very intense or passionate.

Pragma is a pragmatic, practical, mutually beneficial relationship. It may be somewhat unromantic. A person who leans toward this type of relationship may look for a partner at work or where the person is spending time. Sex is likely to be seen as a technical matter needed for producing children, if they are desired.

Mania is an obsessive or possessive love, jealous and extreme. A person in love this way is likely to do something crazy or silly, such as stalking. The movie Fatal Attraction was about this type.

Agape (a-GOP-aye) is a gentle, caring, giving type of love, brotherly love, not concerned with the self. It is relatively rare. Mother Theresa showed this kind of love for impoverished people.

Why Is Love Important? Love is important because without it life has no meaning or purpose. Love allows us to be more and do more than we could ever accomplish without its power. Love is a beautiful feeling that express affection, honesty and at the same time friendship. Around the world people are concerned about solutions for many of social problems. Problems that include world hungry and violence are some example of social matters that love could solve.

Character Protects Life

It is rightly said that CHARACTER is the foundation for all true success. A person may have position, money or power, but unless he has "good" character she or he is not considered to be truly successful.

Character is said to be "the stable and distinctive qualities built into an individual's life which determine his or her response regardless of circumstances."
Abraham Lincoln said, "Reputation is the shadow. Character is the tree." Our character is not just what we try to display for others to see, it is who we are even when no one is watching. Good character is doing the right thing because it is right to do what is right.
Character is a "complex of mental and ethical traits" and those qualities or traits are "built into an individual's life." These determine a person's response in any given situation.
If we were to make a list of good "character traits" or good” character qualities," our list would include words as: 

•     Honesty
•     Integrity
•     Depend  ability
•     Loyalty
•     Enthusiasm

There are many more that could be added to this.
We can focus on building qualities if we break character down into its basic elements. This helps us to improve our overall character. Honesty is a good quality, for example, that really consists of several more basic qualities – dependability, truthfulness, diligence, etc. Therefore, when a person works on becoming more honest, he does so by becoming more dependable, more diligent, and more truthful.
Today’s world faces many difficult problems such as:
Escalating crime, drug and alcohol abuse, workplace violence, gang activity, vandalism, school dropouts, deteriorating work ethics, domestic violence, juvenile delinquency, racial tensions, broken families...
The list seems endless.
Due to lack or misapplication of good character qualities, all of these problems spring out. We must deal with these roots to find lasting solutions to the problems in day to day life. We must work to improve our own character, teach good character to our children, and help those around us to improve their character!  Character development is essential to the ongoing success of our society. That is why Character Education is so important. Character is the Key to Success!
Our character is defined by what we do, not what we say or believe. There is a famous quote by Bruce Lee “Knowledge will give you power, but character respect.”
Some qualities required to protect character are:

• Alertness: Being aware of what is taking place around me so I can have the right responses
